Market Trends of Asia Pacific Orange Industry
This section covers the major market trends shaping the APAC Orange Market according to our research experts:
China Dominates in Terms of Production
China is the largest producer of oranges in the Asia Pacific region and the second-largest producer in the world with 12% of the total world's orange production. The expansion of citrus production in China is being driven by an expanded area in western regions such as Guangxi and Sichuan provinces. According to FAO, the total area under oranges cultivation was recorded as 494 thousand hectares in 2017, increasing to 509 thousand hectares in 2018. An increase in the export demand and domestic consumption is anticipated to fuel the production of the orange in China.
Australia Dominates the Export Market
Even though Australia is not among the leading producers of orange in the Asia Pacific region, it is the top exporting country. According to ITC trade map data, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore are the leading importers of orange from Australia with an import value share of 31%, 18.8%, 11.5%,5%, and 4.9% in 2018. Increasing demand from China has been the main driving force behind the growth in Australian citrus exports over the last decade. As the demand for oranges continues to grow in China, the exports from Australia to China is also anticipated to rise in the coming years.
