  • January 2024 - Polaris Smart Metering announced that it signed two smart meter projects in Uttar Pradesh, India, worth a combined INR 5,200 crore (USD 623.4 million). The contracts for the installation of more than 5.1 million smart meters in the significant Lucknow and Ayodhya/Devipatan regions have been given to Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL). The business intends to install the meters over the course of the next 27 months.
  • December 2023 - Xylem introduced its grid edge Stratus IQ+ smart electricity meter under the Sensus brand, which aims to give utilities more data than previously, including information on EV charging from customers.   • April 2024 - South Korea has launched a nanosatellite into orbit as part of its project to create a constellation of satellites by 2027.The South Korean Yonhap Agency reported on Wednesday that the satellite was launched aboard Rocket Lab's Electron rocket from a spaceport in Mahia city, New Zealand. The agency quoted the South Korean Ministry of Science, Information Technology and Communications, saying that the satellite, called "Neonsat-1", is scheduled to be deployed in space at an altitude of 520 kilometers.
  • May 2024: AWS invested USD 17 billion to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure services in Spain. Amazon’s cloud business expanded its cloud infrastructure in the Aragón region of northeastern Spain, creating 6,800 jobs across roles, including construction, engineering, and facilities maintenance. AWS stated that its infrastructure expansion would contribute USD 24 billion to Spain’s gross domestic product. More than half of the contribution came from the Aragón region while also supporting 17,500 jobs in local businesses.
  • February 2024: OVHcloud, a prominent European cloud specialist, launched its first two public cloud 'Local Zones' in Madrid, Spain. Owing to a recent acquisition, OVHcloud rapidly deployed cloud capacity within weeks, targeting new international markets. The newly established Local Zones in Spain provided customers with improved access to OVHcloud's Public Cloud services, guaranteeing low latency and compliance with local data residency mandates.
  • July 2024 - NASA will undertake six activities to meet the Earth observation satellite needs of U.S. Federal civilian agencies. These needs were identified through the 2022 Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG) biennial survey of Federal agencies and represent high-profile needs for satellite Earth observation data. The SNWG is an initiative of the U.S. Group on Earth Observations (USGEO), which helps coordinate U.S. civilian satellite Earth observations. The SNWG Management Office (SNWG MO) at NASA's Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) will oversee these activities.
  • November 2023 - India and the US plan to introduce a new satellite for Earth observation called NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) in the first quarter of the upcoming year. The S-band SAR from ISRO and L-band SAR from NASA were combined at JPL/NASA and are currently being tested in Bangalore by URSC in collaboration with NASA/JPL officials.

  • August 2024 - Loft Orbital and Marlan Space to create the Middle East’s first private manufacturing space company of commercial satellite constellations for LEO, Orbitworks has secured components for its first 10 satellites, the first of which could be launched as early as the first quarter of 2026. Orbitworks will help Loft Orbital further its vision of flying any payload for any customer in the shortest time to orbit.
  • August 2024 - Bayanat AI PLC has announced the successful launch of their first Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite into orbit on August 16, 2024, in partnership with ICEYE, a pioneer in SAR satellite operations for earth observation, persistent monitoring, and natural catastrophe solutions. In a landmark achievement, the Bayanat-owned SAR satellite, in collaboration with Yahsat, was launched via integrator Exolaunch and successfully lifted off aboard SpaceX’s Transporter 11 rideshare from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA. The satellite has established communication, and early routine operations are underway.
  • April 2024 - South Korea has successfully launched its second military spy satellite into orbit, days after North Korea reaffirmed its plan to launch multiple reconnaissance satellites this year. The Koreas each launched their first spy satellites last year — North Korea in November and South Korea in December — amid heightened animosities. They said their satellites would boost their abilities to monitor each other and enhance their own missile attack capabilities.
  • April 2024 - Rocket Lab launched a small satellite from South Korea and a solar sail experiment from NASA on the company's fifth flight of the year. The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology's Satellite Technology Research Center in South Korea has developed a spacecraft with a camera system capable of taking images with a one-meter resolution. The intent of the South Korean government is to use the satellite and upcoming constellation for both civil and national security reasons.
