Market Trends of Brazil Lime Industry
This section covers the major market trends shaping the Brazil Lime Market according to our research experts:
Increase in production of Lime
According to FAO, production of lime accounted for 1481 thousand ton in 2018, which has increased by 14.5% compare to the previous year which accounted for 1293 thousand ton of lime in Brazil. Although Brazil is one of the largest producers of lime/lemon globally, the majority of the produce is meant to be exported to the global market.
However, the domestic consumption of lime has increased in the last decade. This has led to an increase in production to meet the export demand for limes globally as Brazilian limes are juicier and taste better in comparison to other major producing countries like Spain and Mexico. Hence, the country has a strong competitive edge in the global market.
Brazil as major exporter of Lime
Limes are becoming increasingly well-known among European consumers, with higher volumes of consumption of limes. Brazil dominates the market followed by Mexico. Imports of fresh lime into the European market has been growing, and the trend is expected to continue. European imports of fresh limes increased from 167 thousand ton in 2016 to 183 thousand ton in 2017, which in turn will drive the lime market in Brazil. This increasing demand from other countries is driving the export from brazil, which impact positively on the lime market.
