Europe Power Transistor Industry Overview
The Europe power transistor market is semi-consolidated, with the presence of several players like Infineon Technologies, Renesas Electronics, Texas Instruments, etc. Since the market is heavily competitive, the market players constantly strive to adopt advanced technologies and innovate comprehensive products to cater to the evolving needs of their customers.
In March 2023, LITEON Technology chose Texas Instruments' highly integrated gallium nitride (GaN) field effect transistor (FET) plus C2000TM real-time microcontrollers (MCUs) for its latest high-performance server power supply unit (PSU) for the North American market, according to the company. The newly commercialized PSU, which uses TI's LMG3522R030 GaN FET and a TMS320F28003x C2000 real-time MCU, has a power density of more than 95 W/in3 and fulfills 80 Plus Titanium criteria.
In April 2022, Mitsubishi Electric announced its plans to ship samples of its 2.0kV insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module for industrial use next month. The LV100-type T-series IGBT module is anticipated to reduce the size and power consumption of 1500V converters for renewable energy sources with a switching frequency from 1 to 5kHz. 1500V is the upper limit of the EU's Low Voltage Directive, which could be difficult to achieve with 1700V devices. The module samples have a blocking-voltage capability 2.0kV for large-capacity power systems of several hundred kW to several MW.
