Market Trends of Europe Video Surveillance Systems Industry

This section covers the major market trends shaping the Europe Video Surveillance Systems Market according to our research experts:

Hardware Segment to Hold A Major Market Share

  • The hardware makes up for the majority portion of the total cost of a video surveillance system. Hardware can be further segmented into camera and storage. There are three types of cameras available; Analog, IP cameras, and hybrid systems.
  • Analog cameras are commonly used in CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) systems. They send video over cable to VCRs (Video Cassette Recorders) or DVRs (Digital Video Recorders). On the other hand, IP cameras are digital cameras that can send signals over the cable stored in the network. Today, many security camera systems are hybrid systems incorporating both analog and digital components.
  • Security and surveillance cameras can use different storage systems, including internal storage and external storage. In internal camera storage, the video footage that the camera records is stored on a microSD card located inside the camera itself. MicroSD cards are available in various sizes ranging from 4GB to 128TB. In External camera storage, the video footage is stored on a hard drive, like a personal computer, DVR, or a network video recorder (NVR).
  • Cloud storage is another storage option where the video files are sent off to remote servers for storage. This storage method can be used as a backup option for the video files. For instance, in December 2021, Ava Security launched a new cloud-connected security camera, Ava Bullet, that uses AI, machine learning, and acoustic analytics. The camera is designed to help users detect anomalies in real-time and receive proactive incident notifications.
  • In addition, there is increasing use of cameras that are being deployed across the globe owing to the increasing security concerns across various industries and verticals. Industry shift toward IP cameras has led to many hardware-based innovations that provide better low light performance, object tracking, and in-built security. Technological advancements have resulted in highly specialized surveillance cameras that can be programmed to zoom-in scan items, such as harmful equipment. These factors are further expected to propel the market for video surveillance hardware market.

United Kingdom Market to Grow Significantly

  • In the United Kingdom, the need for video surveillance cameras continues to grow at an accelerated rate due to the presence of terrorism threats in public places and the increasing number of initiatives taken by the private sector to improve the safety and wellbeing of employees in the workplace.
  • Additionally, criminal damage and theft threats in the commercial sectors also remain consistent drivers for adopting video surveillance cameras.
  • CCTV cameras are placed in high-risk, busy, or secluded public spaces such as town centers, shops, train stations, and car parks. Video surveillance techniques are used across many public and private sectors. In addition to local councils, police forces, and security services, privately-operated CCTV cameras are commonly used by private businesses and domestic properties.
  • The region leads the way in the application of Video Surveillance Systems. Its use is wide-ranging, encompassing facial-recognition technology, remote video monitoring, video smoke detection, mobile systems, Automatic Number Plate Recognition, and many other functions.
  • Further, in January 2022, London-based Pimloc, whose Secure Redact product automatically blurs faces and license plates in surveillance footage, raised a seed round of USD 7.5 million led by Zetta Venture Partners, as investors believe regulation and concern over privacy will require more tools for handling surveillance video.
