Gluten-Free Pasta Market Analysis
The gluten-free pasta market is projected to register a CAGR of 9.78% over the forecast period.
- There has been a substantial shift in consumer eating habits. With an increasing number of people substituting a gluten-free diet for their regular diet, demand for gluten-free pasta is expected to surge. Subsequently, the working population has become more aware of food product labels. Hence, this has led to manufacturers incorporating ingredients that are healthy and, at the same time, economical.
- Although celiac diseases among consumers are common, most cases are due to gluten allergy. Thus the demand for healthy pasta, such as gluten-free and vegan pasta, has significantly increased. Consumption of packaged food among millennials and Gen-Zs is one of the key factors facilitating the growth in the gluten-free pasta market. Further, processed food is gaining immense traction as key players introduce innovative and nutritious products.
- The gluten-free pasta market has widespread opportunities to expand into some new but potential markets, like Asia-Pacific, South America, and Africa, owing to the changing lifestyles of consumers. The United States is one of the most developed markets for gluten-free products, including pasta. Owing to the decreasing leisure time among consumers, the market for gluten-free pasta is growing in developed countries like the United States.
- Another factor promoting growth is rising health awareness and a balanced diet with enough protein. Gluten-free products' increasing popularity encourages producers to expand their distribution channels and reinvent their product lines. This is resulting in a surge in gluten-free pasta sales.
Gluten-Free Pasta Market Trends
Growing Intolerance Toward Gluten and the Prevalence of Celiac Disease
- The demand for gluten-free pasta is constantly rising due to the increased cases of gluten intolerance among customers. The excess consumption of gluten food, such as wheat, rice, and other cereals, commonly consumed in the Asia Pacific regions, is usually considered a staple food. Although celiac diseases among consumers in the region are common, most cases are due to gluten allergy.
- According to a survey by Celiac Disease Foundation, in 2022, over 3 million Americans had celiac disease. This condition is prevalent among many consumers, leading to reduce consumption of gluten intake. This eventually led to a shift in demand for gluten-free products in the market.
- Changing lifestyles and rapid urbanization have led to increasing consumption of ready-to-use or pre-cooked food products. Ready-to-go products are in high demand, especially among the working group. Thus the demand for pasta in the household or retail market is higher than for dried pasta. The demand for gluten-free pasta is also driven by consumers inclined toward fitness and a healthy diet.
- As gluten products are commonly filled with carbohydrates and other fats, the consumers in the market are choosing gluten-free products and options. Owing to this, many companies in the area offer a wide range of pasta that can be consumed guilt-free, add nutritional value to the foods, and help maintain good health. The reasons mentioned above were a few significant factors that propelled the consumption of gluten-free pasta in the market.
North America Holds a Prominent Share in The Market
- Owing to fast-paced lifestyles and the need for a quick meal among adults, there has been a growing demand for healthy and convenient food that can be consumed instantly. The region's market for free-from foods is anticipated to be boosted by the trend of label claims that combine gluten-free and allergen-free status.
- Manufacturers in the market are adopting clean labeling of the products offered to differentiate their products from regular and conventional products available in the market. Moreover, there has been a significant increase in the number of people in the United States and Canada suffering from gluten sensitivities and illnesses like celiac disease over time, contributing significantly to the market growth.
- According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, in 2021, retail sales of free-from food and beverages products reached around USD 14 billion in the United States. Additionally, the sub-continent is anticipated to consume more gluten-free cuisine. Consumers inclined towards fitness, sports, and other health-related enthusiasts prefer gluten-free pasta over conventional pasta. Healthy ready-to-go products are in high demand, especially among the working group, which propelled the growth of gluten-free pasta in the region.
