Favorable Government Initiatives: Qatar National Vision 2030
The Qatari government has planned with its Qatar National Vision 2030 to develop the education sector, which is important for achieving the economic diversification and to become an education hub of the region. The government of Qatar has also allocated a heavy annual budget for Qatar’s education sector, with a focus to enhance course curriculum, improving learning outcomes, encouraging efficient teaching and refining the efficiency of education system. These initiatives would lay the foundation stone to increase female participation and expatriates enrolling in the Qatar Education System in the coming years. The sector has been expanding at a rapid pace to meet the rising demand from nationals and expatriates. Qatar is also witnessing a shift towards increasing preference for private education, which is resulting in an influx of international institutions. Such institutions offer diverse curricula and are particularly beneficial for the expat population, which are not allowed to obtain education in the public schools. The Schools in Qatar are classified as independent schools (government-funded), international schools, community schools, and private Arabic schools. Although independent schools account for nearly half of the total schools operating in the country, the number of international schools have increased in the last few years.

As per the Global Competitiveness Report, Qatar ranked 5th for its quality of higher education and training, 10th for quality of primary education, and 6th for the quality of its higher education and training.
The majority of population in Qatar constitutes of expatriates, so to provide better education options to them an influx of private institutions has been observed as they are demanding greater facility schools providing international curriculums. Therefore, the establishment of international schools in Qatar, fueled by an increase in demand for private schools, has facilitated access to high quality education and has led to an improvement in education infrastructure across the country.
Qatar Private K-12 Education Industry Overview
The Qatar Education industry is relatively fragmented with private institutes like GEMS Education, SABIS Education Services, Al Jazeera Academy, Doha British School, The Phoenix Private School, Park House English School, American School of Doha, Newton International School and Kings College Doha providing quality education along with international curriculums.
Qatar's private-sector Arabic, international and community schools serve over 250,000 students. In 2017, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry offered 11 plots of land across Qatar to private sector investors to develop and operate new private schools. The aim was to provide high-quality education by improving infrastructure to enhance the quality of education and training. The 11 plots of land are located in different areas: Umm Qarn, Rawdat Al Hamamah, Al Wukair (four), Luaib, Al Thamid (two), Al Khor (two) and Simaisma. Each piece of land covers an area of 15,000 square metres.
In the 2018-19 academic year, at least 13 new private schools have opened for accommodating 6,021 students.
