Morocco Seed Market Analysis

Government Subsidy for Importing and Marketing Certified Seeds
The Agricultural Development Fund (ADF) of Morocco provides subsidies for Marketing and Storage of Certified seeds. The seed corporation in Morocco accredited during 2016-2017 to commercialize the national production of certified wheat and Barley seeds. The ADF also aids in funding for the Monogram sugarbeet seed and imported Rice seed corporates for the carry-over stocks. This subsidy is paid to the seed corporations that deduct the seed price upon seeling to a farmer. These subsidies are applicable only if the seeds marketed are certified by the National Health Security Office for Foodstuffs (ONSSA).
Increased Production of Cereals and Vegetable Crops
As per the APEDA, it is seen that Wheat and Barely are produced at a higher rate in Morocco followed by vegetable crops during the forecast period. Among this, the crops like Tomato, Beans, Olives are exported at a higher rate to the neighboring countries like France, Russia, Uk, Spain, Germany and so on. Morocco also imports the cereals (Maize, Barley) and vegetable seeds (Potato, Sugarbeet, Beans, Tomato) from Netherland, UK, Denmark, France, Peru to meet the increased production demand.
Morocco is dependent on the EU for the import of many vegetables and cereal seeds, owing to better quality and drought tolerance issues. Vegetable seed constitutes the major portion of both exports and imports. Henceforth, in order to meet the increased internal as well as external demand, morocco imports and exports varied seeds which are further assisted by the Morocco government by providing subsidies to market and store such resources within the region.
