  • March 2022: The United States' President Joe Biden agreed to a landmark energy supply deal with the European Union. Under this deal, the United States was expected to increase transatlantic gas deliveries. This deal is important to reduce dependence on Russia after the Russia-Ukraine War.
  • January 2022: The Department of Energy announced the release of 13.4 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The release of the emergency oil reserves aimed to combat rising gasoline prices in the United States and the lack of oil supply worldwide.

  • April 2024: Hibiscus Oil & Gas Malaysia Limited, a subsidiary of Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad, announced a second discovery in the offshore Malaysia-Vietnam agreement area, with the successful completion of the drilling of the Bunga Aster-1 exploration well. The Bunga Aster-1 well encountered approximately 17.5 m of oil-bearing sandstone with up to 46 m of potential oil column.
  • November 2023: SK Innovation's subsidiary, SK Earthon, an exploration and production company, announced the successful discovery of crude oil in Block 16-2 in the southeastern offshore area, located in the Cuu Long Basin, which is considered one of the most promising exploration areas in Vietnam.
  • September 2023: Acelen, the largest bunker manufacturer in the Brazilian state of Bahia, joined with Bunker Holding's subsidiary Bunker One, which announced that it would provide the country's first outside anchorage bunkering operation. The anchorage area at the Port of Itaqui in São Marcos Bay (MA) can accommodate vessels, including tankers and large cargo ships.
  • November 2022: Nimofast Brasil SA and the Norwegian company Kanfer Shipping AS signed a collaboration agreement to develop small and medium-sized LNG shipping, small-scale floating storage units (FSU), and LNG bunkering solutions in Brazil starting in 2025.
  • July 2023: Asahi Tanker completed bunkering with marine biofuel (B24) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the oceangoing LPG tanker Buena Reina. Marine biofuel comprises roughly 24% of biofuel and conventional bunker fuel oil (VLSFO). The most significant port in Japan, Tokyo Bay, hosted the operation of Buena Reina, which Marubeni Corporation chartered.
  • May 2023: The very large gas carrier (VLGC) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will receive a B24 biofuel bunker from Japanese LPG trader and importer Astomos Energy Corporation and compatriot energy business Inpex Corporation. According to the deal, Inpex will use a bunker ship run by the oil and shipping business Monjasa at the Khor Fakkan port in the UAE emirate of Sharjah to provide B2 biofuel to the VLGC that Astomos has rented.
  • July 2023: McDermott International Ltd secured a construction contract related to a Shell PLC pipeline project situated on Borneo Island in Malaysia. This offshore pipeline is designated to serve the F22, F27, and Selasih fields located in Sarawak state. As part of the contract, McDermott would be responsible for the transportation and installation services pertaining to two pipeline segments and one section of flexible pipelay. 
  • June 2023: Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services PLC (BAFS) planned to construct a fresh oil pipeline to interconnect its networks, with the goal of enhancing its trade activities in the northern region. This 52-kilometer pipeline is expected to span from Saraburi to Ang Thong, enabling the efficient transport of oil from the Eastern region to the Northern region. BAFS was engaged in discussions with Thai Petroleum Pipeline Co. regarding this prospective oil pipeline initiative. 
  • Apr 2023: Afro Energy, the local subsidiary of Australian gas explorer Kinetiko Energy, successfully developed 30 pilot wells in the Amersfoort area of South Africa's Mpumalanga province. The intention is to conduct fracking for coal bed methane in this region. Afro Energy holds exploration rights over an extensive 7,000 square kilometers (2,700 square miles) of the province. It asserts that the gas resources beneath this vast expanse could potentially amount to 4.9 trillion cubic feet.
  • Feb 2023: Tethys Oil was gearing up for the re-entry and retesting of the Thameem-1 well in Oman, and this time, the approach involved utilizing fracking tools to stimulate the reservoir. The company has disclosed its plans, stating that the well will undergo re-entry and retesting, accompanied by a hydraulic fracture operation. Current preparations are concentrated on the design, procurement, and site readiness for the hydraulic fracture.
  • September 2023: SLB signed a subsurface technology agreement with INEOS Energy, the energy division of INEOS, a global chemical and manufacturing company. INEOS Energy will partner with SLB’s Performance Centre in Aberdeen to collaborate and innovate subsurface technologies, including AI capabilities, to help it drive operational performance for continued growth, new acquisitions, and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
  • April 2023: QatarEnergy, formerly Qatar Petroleum, a state-owned petroleum company of Qatar, agreed with Shell PLC to acquire a 40% working interest in the C-10 block located offshore Mauritania. Shell PLC and QatarEnergy have decided to explore the C-10 block, which is approximately 50 kilometers off the coast of Mauritania, Africa.
  • June 2022: Vallourec SA won a 10-year contract for providing the supply of Premium Casing and inventory management services and will cover a part of Saudi Aramco's needs for Premium OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) (including drill collars) solutions for its drilling operations. The contract has been signed on a call-off basis, placed every quarter during the term of the agreement. The first two on-call orders have already been received, with delivery scheduled for early 2023.
  • April 2024: Forssea Robotics, a French company, introduced its remotely operated vehicle (ROV) ARGOS-X. The vehicle is developed for integration with uncrewed surface vessels and shallow water deployments.
  • January 2024: Solstad Offshore expanded its fleet offering by equipping six more subsea construction vessels with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). The company also signed an agreement with Omega Subsea to improve its management and hire personnel to operate the ROV systems on board the vessels.
  • May 2023: Blueye Robotics, a professional deepwater design, operating, and service provider, received contracts from the Norwegian Coast Guard to provide new ROV systems.
  • August 2023, India is poised to purchase a considerable dirty fuels from Russia in years, as a slump in crude flows from the critical producer and looming refinery maintenance threaten supplies. In August, imports of sludgy products from Russia should double from last month to about 269,000 barrels a day. The flows primarily include high-sulfur fuel oil and vacuum gasoil, which can be employed in secondary refining units to improve yields of higher-value products like diesel and gasoline.

  • May 2023: UAE-based energy firm - Dana Gas announced its plans to start the drilling of 11 new wells in Egypt by the end of this year and projects the wells to add up to 80 bcf of reserves and production. The company has allocated investments of approximately USD 100 million to drill these wells, indicating that the company has four concessions in Egypt and is seeking to include them in one concession within an agreement awaiting approval by the House of Representatives.
  • June 2022: The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company announced that BP was awarded an offshore exploration block in Egypt following its successful participation in a limited bid round in 2021.
  • January 2022: TransGlobe Energy Corporation and Pharos Energy were appointed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to conduct oil exploration in the Western and Eastern Deserts. The contracts are valued at at least USD 506 million in total. Additionally, both regions will receive a USD 67 million grant to drill 12 wells.
